Julen Lopetegui is on borrowed time at West Ham United, and he may not get another chance to save his skin with the club actively searching for a new manager.

The Hammers are still in talks with Graham Potter, who is considered the leading candidate to take over from Lopetegui, but the Independent claims the club have drawn up a list of alternatives.

An offer is believed to be on the table for Potter, but the former Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion manager is still mulling over whether to take the job.

Lopetegui led first-team training as usual on Tuesday, but his position at the club is widely regarded as untenable.

He may be on his way out, but Potter’s decision will be key to determining the next steps at the London Stadium.

While the English manager, who is also subject to interest from Everton, mulls over the offer on the table, West Ham have started exploring back-up options.

The club previously expressed an interest in former Porto manager Sergio Conceicao, but their indecision paved the way for AC Milan to swoop in for the Portuguese tactician.

West Ham have now shifted their attention to former Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier, with reports claiming they’ve already approached the Frenchman over the soon-to-be-vacant role.

Galtier would be a top appointment for West Ham

Given his track record, Galtier would be a fantastic appointment for West Ham.

He enjoyed plenty of success in the French top flight, leading Saint-Etienne to the French League Cup title in 2012/13 before claiming back-to-back Ligue 1 titles with Lille and PSG.

Before his unceremonious departure from the French capital in 2023, Galtier was regarded as one of the best managers in the country.

Lured by the riches of the Middle East, he joined Qatari club Al-Duhail and wasted no time getting his hands on his first piece of silverware, leading them to the 2024/25 Qatari Stars Cup.

The 58-year-old is a serial winner and has what it takes to restore West Ham to the upper echelons of the Premier League.
