West Ham and Lazio legend Paolo Di Canio views Inter Milan as the clear favorites to prevail in Sunday’s Derby della Madonnina against AC Milan.

The Nerazzurri have dominated this fixture over the past few weeks. This includes two famous wins last season: A 5-1 demolition last September and a historic victory that sealed the Serie A title on April 22nd.

Moreover, Simone Inzaghi’s men arrive to the big showdown on the back of an impressive display against Manchester City.

They returned home with a valuable point from the Champions League opener.

On the other hand, Milan are enduring a torrid start to the campaign. They only won one fixture thus far this season, and they’re coming off a defeat to Liverpool at San Siro.

Hence, Di Canio is finding it hard to envision a victory for the under-fire Paulo Fonseca.

“Milan must get a positive result in the Derby, especially because it’s Inter-Milan,” noted the former Sunderland manager during his appearance on Sky Sport Italia via FcInterNews.

“They must prevent what happened the other night [against Liverpool] from ensuing again.

“What I saw yesterday against City was a very solid, beautiful, tough Inter, they have the spare parts.

“Therefore, I find it very difficult at this moment to imagine Milan earning a positive result. Then again, even flowers bloom in winter, but I still think it’s difficult.”

Di Canio also noted some similarities between the contest between Man City and Inter, and the one that took place last night in Bergamo between Atalanta and Arsenal.

“Atalanta missed the penalty, but they defended well. It’s true, but Arsenal had the best scoring opportunities, like Man City on Wednesday.

“The English had two or three scoring opportunities in the match. One for Gundogan,  Bernardo Silva and Foden.”
