It is no secret that West Ham will be after a new No. 9 in the summer 2025 transfer window, and after wasting their time and money with the aging and oft-injured Niclas Fullkrug, the Hammers are going to need to go after a younger striker with more star power.
Free agent Jonathan David represents the Hammers' best shot at getting the striker position right this summer, but nabbing the Canadian star is no guarantee. So many top clubs will be after the best available free agent striker, and these are clubs with European football to offer David and a bigger budget than West Ham.
But West Ham really do need to sign someone with quality. If it's not a free agent like David, then they will have to look to other top five European leagues outside the Premier League for someone with the ability to bring 15 goals a season to the London Stadium.
According to a report from Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web's Raimondo De Magistris, West Ham are interested in signing Fiorentina breakout star Moise Kean and have actually made initial contacts for the former Juventus man. The report also mentions that Newcastle and Arsenal are interested in the 25-year-old striker.
Kean first broke out in Turin as a teenager, parlaying his success into an ill-fated move to the Premier League with Everton. But even then, Kean got back on the right track at PSG despite even playing out of position on the right wing with Mauro Icardi embedded at striker. Kean went back to Juve, stunk up the joint, and ended up at Fiorentina.
The move to Florence has resuscitated Kean's career. He has become much more efficient in front of goal as the centerpiece of a high-flying Viola attack that now has Fiorentina flirting with Champions League football for 2025/26. Kean is using his body much more effectively, blossoming into the striker that Juventini thought he'd become about five years ago.
It would be wise indeed for West Ham to put out feelers and see how much Kean could cost, if Fiorentina are at all interested in selling after finally finding their replacement for current Juve (backup) striker Dusan Vlahovic. Kean just moved to Florence this past summer for 13-18 million euros, pending add-ons.
Kean already has 15 goals for the Viola this season with 3 assists and 2.9 combined dribbles completed and fouls drawn per game in what is easily the best season of his career. The likelihood of the Hammers signing him this summer is low, but Kean is the kind of option they should be monitoring on their striker shortlist.
