Former Premier League defender Mario Melchiot thinks that Curtis Jones’ goal for England against Greece on Thursday is the reason why people go to games.

The 23-year-old is a product of the Liverpool academy system and this season he has impressed with his performances for Arne Slot’s side.

Jones’ display on Thursday impressed Melchiot and he stated that people go to the stadiums to watch goals like that which the Liverpool star produced against Greece.

Melchiot pointed out that Jones’ performances for Liverpool this season earned him his England debut and goal.

“For me, the highlight of the game was Jones’ game”, Melchiot said on ESPN.

“What he did was why you come and watch [games].

“The goal that he scored, the way he clipped and he played in the middle.

“Okay, he lost a couple of balls in the middle while taking some risks, but one of the key things is the way he is playing at the moment for Liverpool.

“I think that got him the call in the starting moment [line-up] into the English team and make you a debut with a goal.”

Jones has featured 13 games for Liverpool in all competitions in the ongoing campaign and has four assists with a goal to his name.
