Inter are hosting Fiorentina in San Siro in the final fixture on the 24th round of Serie A fixtures on Monday evening, but the two teams already faced each other in the league on Thursday evening. Here is why the Nerazzurri and Viola are involved in a double-header.

Why Inter and Fiorentina are in a Serie A double-header

Fiorentina rose to a memorable 3-0 victory against the reigning Serie A champions in Tuscany on Thursday evening thanks to a Luca Ranieri opener and an impressive brace from the in-form Moise Kean in a match that only lasted for 73 minutes of regular time.

The game had originally begun on December 1, in the 14th round of 2024-25 league fixtures. However, the match was suspended in the 17th minute after Edoardo Bove was taken ill, and the remainder of the match was later rescheduled for February 6, the earliest available slot for both teams.

It is sheer coincidence that the re-arranged Fiorentina-Inter match was scheduled a few days before the Inter-Fiorentina match that had already been set for Monday night.

That means that Simone Inzaghi and his team will have a chance at revenge against the recently-triumphant Viola, while Raffaele Palladino will be looking to make it back-to-back victories, with an improved set of squad options to pick from this time around.
