Following Marc-André ter Stegen’s injury, Barcelona have been moving rather quickly to try and secure the services of a goalkeeper to cover for the injured German stopper.

It now appears they have signed briefly retired Polish stopper Wojciech Szczesny, although it would appear the 34-year-old had some reservations regarding his move to the Catalan club.

As per Mundo Deportivo, the goalkeeper had a phone call with his fellow countryman and future Barcelona teammate Robert Lewandowski, and reportedly aired his concerns about playing time.

As revealed on Catalan TV by Jofre Mateu, who said ‘There was a call between Lewandowski and Szczesny in which the goalkeeper tells him that he is fine as he is and either he goes to be a starter or he doesn’t go…

It would appear that the goalkeeper isn’t interested in sitting on the bench at Barcelona, meaning he will likely only be there until his German teammate recovers.

Szczesny retired following the Euros during the summer, despite having a year remaining on his contract at Juventus, showing that money clearly isn’t what is motivating him at this stage.
