Liverpool (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Diaz; Jota.

The pair are experiencing completely contrasting fortunes right now and the intriguing encounter will take place on Saturday 28th September to be shown live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League, with kick-off scheduled for 17:30 BST.

Wolves’ only win this season came at home to Burnley in the EFL Cup, but the Molineux faithful have had little to cheer for a long time now.

You have to go all the way back to April for their last home league win over Luton, which is their sole Premier League success in their last 15 attempts.

The corresponding fixture last season ended 3-1 to Liverpool and the Reds are in great shape heading into this contest.

Arne Slot’s men have won six of their seven matches in all competitions this season, with their only blemish a shock 1-0 loss at home to Nottingham Forest.

O’Neil feeling the heat

Wolves have lost three straight league matches and the misery looks set to go on for a little while longer for Gary O’Neil and his side.

Liverpool are the visitors this weekend, but Wanderers then travel to Brentford next week before welcoming champions Manchester City to Molineux on October 20th.

Having started this weekend at the bottom of the standings, Wolves’ position could be even more perilous in the next few weeks.

Last week’s 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa was particularly galling as the Old Gold led at Villa Park until the 73rd minute. It was still 1-1 with just two minutes to go but sucker punches from Ezri Konsa and Jhon Duran ended the resistance of the wounded Wolves.

In contrast, things couldn’t be going much better for the Reds who have adapted to life under Slot almost seamlessly.

Liverpool have won six of their seven matches under the Dutchman, including Wednesday’s 5-1 demolition of West Ham in the EFL Cup.

Wolves vs Liverpool team news

There is good and bad news for Wolves this week with Toti Gomes back in training after missing the last three matches through injury.

The Portuguese defender’s return is a welcome boost for boss O’Neil, who has lost centre-back Yerson Mosquera to a long-term knee injury.

Sasa Kalajdzic, Enso Gonzalez, Bastien Meupiyou and Boubacar Traore were already on a lengthy injury list with knee issues to leave O’Neil having to juggle his side for this weekend’s encounter.

Slot had the luxury of resting several key men for the midweek win over West Ham and he is likely to resort to the side which beat Bournemouth 3-0 last Saturday.

Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Luiz Diaz are likely to be among those to return, while Alisson could be restored to goalkeeping duties after missing Liverpool’s last two matches with a minor hamstring issue.
