Paris Saint-Germain seem to have their sights set on adding a Premier League striker to their squad. Alexander Isak (25) signed a six-year contract with Newcastle United in August 2022, which was reported to be worth over $70m.

Although his contract runs until 2028,  Fichajes reports that the Magpies may be willing to part company with the Swede if the price is right.

That price is said to be in the range of €100m for the youngster who banged in 21 Premier League goals for Newcastle last season, finishing third in the Golden Boot standings behind Cole Palmer (22) and Erling Haaland (27).

Isak has not begun the new domestic campaign well, netting just once for Eddie Howe’s side in five EPL fixtures. Over the weekend, he had just 26 touches in their 3-1 defeat to Fulham, failing to register a single effort on target.

Afterwards, Howe told ChronicleLive: “He’s (Isak) not as involved as we want him to be; he’s not having the impact in the games we want him to have and what he is capable of doing so hence the tactical reshuffle at half-time.”

His combination of speed, technique, and quality in front of the goal seems to be well-suited to Luis Enrique’s tactics aim to have the bulk of the possession and control the game while employing high counter-pressing.

Les Parisiens have been without an established central striker since Marco Asensio suffered a muscle contracture in his right thigh in their opening Champions League fixture against Girona.

Isak was previously a teammate of current PSG vice-captain Achraf Hakimi when the Moroccan was on loan at Borussia Dortmund from 2018-2020.

Last season, the Swede netted his first Champions League goal against Les Parisiens at the Parc des Princes in a match that ended in a 1-1 draw, with Kylian Mbappé equalising from the penalty spot in the latter stages.
