Xabi Alonso responds to media claims on Real Madrid target Florian Wirtz | OneFootball

Incoming Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso has spoken out on the speculation surrounding the future of Florian Wirtz in the German media this week.

The name of tactician Alonso has of course taken its place centre stage in the headlines across Europe over the course of the day to date.

This comes after the Spaniard at last confirmed his plans to depart Bayer Leverkusen upon the campaign’s close:

“It’s time to confirm these will be my final games at Bayer.”

Alonso, in turn, is expected to be announced as Carlo Ancelotti’s replacement at Real Madrid any day now.

When it comes to his immediate plans at the Santiago Bernabéu, reports in the media have long pointed towards Alonso having set his sights on the signature of Florian Wirtz.

The former Liverpool standout has overseen Wirtz’s explosion into one of world football’s standout talents over the last couple of seasons, in turn understood to be keen to reunite with the German international in La Liga.

Recent days, though, had seen a major spanner thrown in the works.

This came amid claims that Wirtz himself had informed Alonso of his intention to take his talents to Bayern Munich.

Speaking during his latest press conference on Friday, such suggestions were in turn put to Bayer Leverkusen’s outbound headmaster.

Alonso, though, was quick to assure:

“Florian Wirtz didn’t tell me that he only wants to go to Bayern… this is not my information.”
