Bayer Leverkusen’s Granit Xhaka is relishing Saurday evening’s top-spiel showdown with league leaders Bayern Munich this coming weekend.
In an interview with Sky Sports Germany, the Swiss international who has 134 caps to his name, knows what Die Werkself must do if they are to put further pressure on the Bavarian giants.
"To be honest, not that much changed [regarding the Bundesliga title race] after the [0-0 draw against Wolfsburg]. We knew our position in the table before the game and we knew it afterwards too.
“We know that we have to beat Bayern to stay in contention and we're not going into the game with the idea of playing for a draw.
“We want to win every game. That's our mentality. It's in our hands to keep pushing, to believe in success and to win the upcoming games,” Xhaka added.
The 32-year-old went on to say how facing Die Rekordmeister is always a memorable occasion. He also has full faith in his teammates who he believes are capable of eking out an important result.
“It's always special to play against Bayern Munich. You know the players and the club, but they also know how strong we are at home.
“We've shown again in the last few games that we can upset anyone and will do everything we can to keep the three points here. We need a perfect day to beat them. I am convinced that we are capable of doing that,” he concluded.
After 21 Matchdays, Bayer Leverkusen come into the game in second-place and 8 points adrift of Vincent Kompany’s team on 54 points. One would imagine Die Werkself need a victory here if they are intent on defending the Meisterschale.
