Manchester City have dealt with injuries to their centre-backs all season long. It has been an ailment that hasn’t allowed the world champions to have any continuity in their defence during the 24/25 campaign. As it stands currently Manuel Akanji and John Stones are both out for a lengthy period due to injury. Now, Nathan Ake will be joining them based on his Instagram post earlier today.
Pep Guardiola revealed after Manchester City’s 3-1 win over Plymouth Argyle that Nathan Ake was set to have tests on a foot injury. The Dutch international was substituted at half-time of City’s fifth-round FA Cup tie at the Etihad on Saturday. Now Ake has revealed on his official Instagram account that he has now had surgery on a fracture in his foot. Furthermore, Ake revealed that the injury has been bothering him for some time.
Nathan Ake now joins Manuel Akanji as the second Manchester City centre-back to have had surgery. Akanji had surgery on an abductor injury and is currently sidelined. John Stones is also out for 8-10 weeks with injury. But the England international avoided surgery on his condition. The positive of Akanji and Ake having surgery is they now have the opportunity to properly recover from their ailments. Due to Manchester City’s heavy schedule they haven’t been allowed that opportunity. That is one silver lining from the situation that Ake and Akanji are currently facing.
A timeline for Ake’s recovery is yet to be revealed. Pep Guardiola is due to face the media on Friday for his pre-game press conference ahead of Manchester City’s Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest. It would be expected that Guardiola may provide a timeline on Ake’s recovery from foot surgery.
