As Real Madrid gear up to face Brest in the UEFA Champions League, much of the attention will undoubtedly be on star forward Kylian Mbappe.

His presence on the pitch is a concern for Brest fans, and understandably so. Last season, while playing for PSG, Mbappe scored twice against Brest. Moreover, he has netted nine goals in ten appearances, all with the Parisian club.

For Mbappe, this match holds added significance. His return to action last October against Lille was far from impressive. Real Madrid lost 0-1, and the forward started on the bench, having just recovered from an injury.

That setback affected his standing with the French national team. A week after the Lille match, Mbappe voluntarily opted out of Didier Deschamps’ squad.

The situation worsened when Deschamps excluded him from the November squad as well.

Things are changing for Mbappe

These events fuelled speculation in France, with critics questioning Mbappe’s form and commitment.

His trip to Stockholm during this period also added to the scrutiny. Despite his immense talent, he struggled to firmly establish himself at Real Madrid during that time.

However, Mbappe now appears determined to turn things around. Playing well against Brest would not only be crucial for Real Madrid but could also send a strong signal to Deschamps ahead of the national team’s March squad announcement.

Mbappe has openly expressed his desire to return to the French national team and prove that his love for representing his country remains intact.

Returning to France in better shape and on a promising run of form, Mbappe will aim to deliver a standout performance. His objective is clear: showcase his progress and help Real Madrid secure a vital win against a competitive Brest side.

Despite Brest having one point more than Real Madrid and the chance to break into the top eight, Ancelotti’s men will be relying heavily on Mbappe’s brilliance to sway the match in their favour.
