AC Milan have agreed deal to sign Kyle Walker on loan from Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola confirmed earlier this month that Walker had expressed a desire to leave City in the January transfer window. The 34-year-old informed the head coach that he wanted a new challenge after seven-and-a-half decorated seasons at the Etihad.

AC Milan have now reached an agreement to sign the City captain on loan for the remainder of the campaign. According to Fabrizio Romano, Milan will cover Walker’s salary during the duration of his time in Italy.

There is a buy option included, though it is not mandatory. The Serie A side have reached an agreement with Walker on a contract until 2027, should the purchase clause be activated in the summer.

Walker’s medical and travel to Milan is now being prepared as he nears an exit from English football. The right-back signed for Manchester City from Tottenham in a £50m deal in 2017 and has since won 17 trophies with the club, including six Premier League titles.

He will join England teammates Fikayo Tomori, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tammy Abraham as part of Sérgio Conceição’s squad.
