The representative of reported Manchester City target Andrea Cambiaso has confirmed that links between the player and the Premier League champions are “true”.
Etihad Stadium bosses were busy throughout the winter window and spent in excess of €200 million in a market that they more often view as one to ignore when it comes to first-team recruitment.
For the first time since the arrival of Aymeric Laporte in the winter window of 2018, Manchester City made additions to Pep Guardiola’s roster as they brought in a total of four new faces throughout positions; two in defence, one in midfield, and a further name in attack.
But while having spent a record-breaking amount from the club’s side of things in a January transfer window, matters could have been made even more expensive for the club as they weighed up the idea of full-back reinforcement.
The talk throughout the market from the side of Italian media was that Manchester City were actively pursuing a deal for Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso, while reports from England were more hesitant, insisting that the player was more a target for the summer.
Now, speaking during a new radio interview in Italy this week, the representatives of Andrea Cambiaso, Giovanni Bia has issued his own insight on links to Manchester City since the turn of the year.
“Juventus will explain what happened,” Bia said.
He continued, “I’ll tell you that everything that went out in the newspapers in relation to the negotiation is true. It’s true that [Pep] Guardiola wanted him.”
Manchester City’s full-back roles did oversee change during the winter window as Kyle Walker brought an end to a seven and a half year stay at the Etihad Stadium by joining AC Milan on loan until the end of the season.
The belief, however, is that the England international has already played his final match in the Sky Blue shirt of the Premier League champions, with the San Siro side holding a €5 million option to buy clause in the agreement.
For now, Pep Guardiola will stick with his existing right-back options ranging from Matheus Nunes and Rico Lewis through to out-of-position centre-back talent in Manuel Akanji, John Stones, Vitor Reis, or Abdukodir Khusanov.
