Alan Shearer has praised the attitude of Nicolas Jackson and has backed the striker to score plenty more goals this season.

The Blues continued their good start to the season with a comfortable 3-0 win against Aston Villa, which was arguably their best performance of the season.

Jackson and Enzo Fernandez both scored for the second week running, whilst Cole Palmer was back amongst the goals after not registering a goal contribution for three games.

A lot was made of Chelsea not signing a striker in the summer having pursued Victor Osimhen for the majority of the window, whilst a deal for Samu Omorodion collapsed at the last minute.

Jackson’s start to the season has shown missing out on a striker could have been a blessing for the Blues and Gary Neville has now questioned whether Chelsea actually need to go and sign a first choice number nine.

The 23-year-old’s goal against Villa was his eighth of the campaign and he’s Chelsea’s joint highest scorer in the league alongside Cole Palmer.

Jackson has shown huge improvement this season and Jamie O’Hara believes he’s turning into a really good striker.

Shearer was full of praise for Jackson following the win against Villa and backed him to score plenty more goals this season.

“He’s very raw and still has a lot of work to do, but I love his attitude in terms of keeping getting in there and making it difficult for defenders,” he told The Rest Is Football.

“He got another goal and he was a constant threat throughout and should have had another two or three goals, perhaps.

“But he keeps getting on in there and that’s what I love about his attitude, he’ll get a load more this season because of that attitude.”

Jackson remains on course to score 20 league goals this season providing he stays fit and he will have another chance to add to his tally against Southampton on Wednesday night, although he will need to be careful as he’s one yellow card away from missing the game against Tottenham.
