Heading into the New Year, Ruben Amorim and the Manchester United board have some significant decisions to make over six players’ futures.
Amad Diallo, Harry Maguire, Tom Heaton, Jonny Evans, Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof are all about to enter the final six months of their contracts at Old Trafford, meaning they’ll be free to open talks with foreign clubs and sign pre-agreements as early as next week.
Of the sextet, only Amad and Maguire have one-year options available for the club to activate. Talks remain ongoing with the former regarding a long-term extension, while fresh reports suggest the centre-half has played his way into Amorim’s plans, too.
According to GiveMeSport, the boss is now said to be ‘desperate’ for a new deal to be agreed with Maguire that sees him stay in M16 until at least 2026.

The 31-year-old, who was recently hailed for his ‘colossal’ performance in this month’s Manchester derby victory, is viewed as ‘one of the more reliable members of the dressing room’ in Amorim’s eyes, and, as such, the coach wants to avoid his head potentially being turned by any outside admirers in the winter window.
Maguire has already featured six times since Amorim took the reins in November. All of his appearances came in the Premier League, including four games as a starter.
When previous speculation suggested that he could be sold at the beginning of 2025, ex-United chief scout Mick Brown weighed in on the rumours, telling Football Insider: “There are Premier League clubs keeping a close eye on the situation. Any club that wants a solid and experienced leader and centre-back will be interested in Harry Maguire.”
He added: “If United decide to let him go at the end of the season, there are clubs queuing up for his signature, so he won’t be short of options.”
