Argentina’s head coach, Lionel Scaloni, addressed Paulo Dybala’s decision to stay at Roma and fight for his chances with the national team.

In an interview with Clank!, Scaloni commented, “Paulo Dybala is a great player. Sometimes he doesn’t play or stays at home as happened in the Copa America, but he is the true representation of the desire to do well for his national team and for his people.”

“He had the opportunity to play on many occasions and every time I made a decision he always understood it,” added Scaloni.

“It is difficult to find players like him because he is a top player, one of the best. We are eternally grateful to him for how he behaved because every time he was called up and played he was fundamental. We appreciate him very much as a person beyond his minutes on the pitch.”

“After he rejected the offer from Saudi he told us he was also thinking about the national team. He was very brave to refuse because nowadays few people make these loving decisions.”

“Choosing to stay in a place where you are loved even if elsewhere they offer you much more in financial terms – that’s a brave thing to do. It’s a decision that makes you appreciate what a great man he is. It is important for us that he continues to play at the highest level in a great team like Roma.”
