Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez has addressed recent criticism amid his lackluster start to the new Serie A campaign.
Replying to Q&A on Instagram, as reported by FCInterNews, last season’s Capocannoniere award winner reiterated his commitment to the Nerazzurri cause.
Lautaro Martinez was the absolute protagonist as Inter strolled to their 20th Scudetto in a dominant 2023/24 league campaign.
With 24 goals, he won the Golden Boot, helping his team leave runners-up AC Milan 19 points behind.
However, his form has fallen off the cliff since the start of the new campaign.
Indeed, El Toro has drawn a blank in seven of his 11 Serie A appearances this term.
Therefore, he has found himself at fans’ mercy.
“You should also remember that I always give everything for Inter,” Martinez stated.
“Like the year of the World Cup when my ankle was destroyed.
“But while others were preparing to have a great World Cup, I was always on the field and never missed a single training session until the Champions League final.
“I played every game like that. Always remember that before reminding me who pays me.”
Despite his form downturn, Martinez has tallied five goals in Serie A.
More importantly, his strikes have directly contributed to nine points.
Indeed, after a match-winning brace at Udinese, he netted winners against Roma and Venezia.
His performance in Sunday’s mouth-watering encounter against Napoli was sub-par.
Marcus Thuram and Martinez played marginal roles as Antonio Conte’s side held Inter to a 1-1 draw.
That game heightened the pressure on the Argentina international.
With the international break upon us, Martinez could find the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers a welcome distraction.
However, his international form in the post-2024 Copa America tournament has been bleak.
He has only scored once in the ongoing qualifying cycle.
