Arsenal will be forced into the transfer market to find a new striker this month after Gabriel Jesus suffered a season-ending ACL injury over the weekend.
It is a big blow for Mikel Arteta’s side, who will be looking to sustain a challenge for the Premier League title and go deep in the UEFA Champions League. However, there are limited options in the market. Alexander Isak and Jonathan David would, ordinarily, be targets considered by the Gunners, L’Équipe understands but neither Newcastle United nor Lille OSC are willing to listen to offers for their No.9s this month.
According to L’Équipe, a move for Sporting’s Viktor Gyökeres could be considered. The prolific Swedish forward has a €100m release clause that the Premier League side wouldn’t necessarily be reticent to activating, especially given the €116m sum that they paid for Declan Rice just a few windows ago. Arteta is also an admirer of Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, L’Équipe understands.
