Arsenal have opened the possibility of parting ways with one of their outcasts this month, according to Sky Sport Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.
The Gunners have had a frustrating Premier League campaign, and they are presently six points behind table-toppers Liverpool, who have a game in hand.
The club have also been unconvincing in the cup competitions. They suffered an early FA Cup exit against Manchester United over the weekend.
The Gunners also face a huge task to reach the League Cup final after a 2-0 loss to Newcastle United in the first leg played at the Emirates Stadium.
There is bound to be investment during the current transfer window, but this could coincide with outgoings. Oleksandr Zinchenko could be one of those.
Plettenberg claims that Borussia Dortmund are exploring a deal for Zinchenko, and concrete talks have already taken place with the player’s management regarding a move.
The left-back is prepared to leave the Gunners this winter. Arsenal are willing to accept a loan deal with an obligation to buy for £17 million at the end of the season.
He had a solid debut campaign, with his ability to invert into midfield being his biggest strength.
However, the 28-year-old has been found out over the past 18 months. Teams have exploited his defensive vulnerability. He is no longer in contention for a starting role.
Riccardo Calafiori and Myles Lewis-Skelly are now ahead of him in the pecking order for the left-back spot. Takehiro Tomiyasu could also be preferred once he returns from injury.
It makes sense for the Gunners to cash in. Zinchenko, described as ‘unbelievable‘ by Kevin De Bruyne, could soon be on his way to Dortmund.
Arsenal are yet to confirm any new winter arrival but they are in advanced talks with Real Sociedad to purchase long-term target Martin Zubimendi. He will arrive in the summer.
Sociedad don’t want to lose him midway through the campaign. Arsenal fans would ideally like a new striker on board, but the club must also plan for other departments.
Jorginho and Thomas Partey have their contracts concluding at the end of June. Zubimendi’s arrival means that the duo will likely be allowed to leave on free transfers.
