Arsenal star Myles Lewis-Skelly announced himself on the international stage with a dream debut for England in Thursday’s FIFA World Cup qualifier against Albania.
The 18-year-old ace opened the scoring for the Three Lions, becoming the youngest player to score on his senior England debut.
His historic goal set Thomas Tuchel on the way to a winning start to life as England head coach as the Three Lions kicked off their qualifier campaign with a comfortable 2-0 win at Wembley Stadium.
Lewis-Skelly got his moment in the 20th minute when he latched on to a perfectly weighted through ball from Jude Bellingham before slotting home through the keeper’s legs with a first-time finish.
At just 18 years and 176 days old, Lewis-Skelly’s goal saw him break a record that had stood for nearly a decade – one previously set by Marcus Rashford.
The teenager became the youngest player to score on his senior England debut since the Manchester United star – on loan at Aston Villa – netted against Australia in 2016 at 18 years and 209 days.
Lewis-Skelly is now the third youngest goalscorer in England’s history.
He sits behind Wayne Rooney (17 years and 317 days vs North Macedonia in 2003) and Michael Owen (18 years and 164 days vs Morocco in 1998) on the all-time list.
Lewis-Skelly was already enjoying a stunning breakthrough campaign with Arsenal and has now cemented his position as one of the best young players in the country.
He made his Arsenal debut in September and has since featured 26 times across all competitions for Mikel Arteta’s side.
Lewis-Skelly will be looking to solidify his place in the England squad when Tuchel’s side take on Latvia on Monday night.
