With the Merseyside derby being postponed on Saturday, Arsenal had a great chance to close the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday.
The Premier League game between Everton and Liverpool at Goodison Park on Saturday was postponed due to Storm Darragh.
Arsenal took on Fulham in the London derby on Sunday knowing that a win at Craven Cottage would reduce the gap between themselves and Liverpool to four points.
However, the Gunners failed to win. The match ended in a 1-1 draw. Arsenal are now six points behind Liverpool, who have a game in hand.
Arsenal fan and TV personality Piers Morgan is hugely disappointed with the draw. He has blamed manager Mikel Arteta for not signing a top striker in the summer transfer window and has urged the Gunners to sort that position out in January.
Morgan wrote on X: “Terrible result. Arteta’s refusal to buy a top striker is yet again coming back to haunt us. Get your chequebook out in January @m8arteta – please!”
There is a need for a top-quality number nine at Arsenal at the moment. Gabriel Jesus is not getting regular playing time and has not scored a single goal in the Premier League so far this season.
Kai Havertz found the back of the net 13 times in the Premier League last season, but the Germany international forward has managed only five goals in the league this campaign.
However, Arsenal should not rush into signing a striker in the January transfer window. Arteta needs to select his next big signing carefully.
Not many clubs would be willing to sell their strikers in the middle of the season. Arsenal may have to settle for a tier-two striker in January. They should not do that.
Arsenal have done their transfer business with a lot of planning and consideration in recent years. They should not move away from that.
