Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini is fully aware of Inter Milan’s strength ahead of tomorrow’s Supercoppa Italiana showdown.
Speaking to the press ahead of this high-stakes semi-final tie, as reported by FCInterNews, Gasperini encouraged La Dea to start strong right from the opening whistle.
Gasperini’s team finished 2024 as Serie A leaders, albeit level on points with Napoli and only one clear of Inter.
However, it takes nothing away from Atalanta’s remarkable form these past few months.
Indeed, a 4-0 demolition at the hands of Inter in late August now seems like a distant memory.
Despite La Dea’s rip-roaring form, they must overcome a significant psychological barrier tomorrow.
Six consecutive defeats to the Nerazzurri, during which they conceded 19 goals, paint a bleak picture for the Bergamo outfit.
Yet, they’ll take the field in high spirits, even though they can’t call upon Serie A’s joint-top scorer Mateo Retegui.
Atalanta ended the last calendar year on an intimidating 13-game unbeaten streak against domestic opposition.
It’s also worth noting that they’ve emerged victorious from 11 of those 13 matches.
Therefore, Gasperini’s men approach the encounter with cautious optimism.
“After a great run in the league, this is an important match,” the veteran coach said.
“It will be a different game, a 90-minute affair, where you’re playing for single-elimination.
“So, it must be approached with a slightly different perspective.’
“In the past three years, Inter has been the strongest team,” he added.
“The last two games have been the most challenging, while the others were more balanced.
“We need to be careful not to concede too much early on and to stay in the game longer.
“Once Inter takes the lead, they become a very difficult team to come back against.”
