Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella has been named as his side’s outstanding performer in yesterday’s Serie A win over Cagliari.
Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, declare that the 27-year-old was “back home” on his return to Cagliari.
Away matches against Cagliari are always special ones for Barella.
The Italian international is a native of Sardinia. He came through the youth ranks of Cagliari, starring for the Rossoblu for several seasons in Serie A before earning a move to Inter.
And yesterday, Barella gave the feeling that the Sardinian air was getting the best out of him.
In the second half of yesterday’s match in particular, Barella was virtually unplayable.
The 27-year-old was full of running and showed his polish and technical ability in the midfield battle.
But it was Barella’s range of passing that really proved vital on the night.,
The Italian’s long passing was extremely accurate. And then, his crossing was pinpoint.
Barella provided two assists for Inter on the night.
The first was a floated cross for Alessandro Bastoni to turn into a looping header over Cagliari keeper Simone Scuffet.
Then, Barella put in an even better ball for Inter’s second goal. Captain Lautaro Martinez will be thanking the Italian, as all he had to do to end his goal drought was stay onside.
