Barcelona director Deco has this week confirmed that two leading members of the club’s first-team setup will have their contracts automatically renewed for another season, in the case of reaching certain objectives.
The pair in question? Robert Lewandowski, and Iñigo Martínez.
Both frontman Lewandowski and defender Iñigo have of course played starring roles for Barcelona across the early months of the campaign.
In the case of the former, he has looked a player reborn under the watch of new boss Hansi Flick, en route to a remarkable haul of 19 goals in 17 appearances across all competitions.
Experienced stopper Iñigo, meanwhile, has taken on an altogether more prominent role in Barca’s backline in 2024/25, now considered one of the first names on the team sheet in Catalunya’s capital.
Speaking to the media this week, the subject of both players’ futures with the club was in turn put to the aforementioned Deco.
This comes with Lewandowski and Iñigo due to see their current terms expire in the summer of 2025.
And, during an interview with Mundo Deportivo, the Blaugrana chief went on to confirm:
“There are players who have an automatic one-year renewal if they meet certain objectives in their contracts. This is the case of Iñigo and Lewandowski.”
The understanding is that the former’s renewal will be activated in the case of the Spaniard playing at least 45 minutes in 60% of Barcelona’s fixtures this season.
Lewandowski’s tally, meanwhile, comes in a little lower, at 55%.
Those of a Blaugrana persuasion should therefore expect to see both players continuing to ply their trade at the Camp Nou for the 2025/26 campaign.
