Barcelona did not make any signings during the winter transfer window, but instead, they are expected to have a busy summer – especially now that they have finally returned to La Liga’s 1:1 rule.
In recent weeks, Barcelona sporting director Deco has been drawing up shortlists of players that the club could look to sign in the summer, and this process has also involved identifying positions that can be strengthened. Head coach Hansi Flick has also been involved in this process, and recently, he asked that right-back be an area to focus on.
Furthermore, Relevo have reported that Deco has identified three more positions that could be addressed during the summer transfer window: goalkeeper, left winger and striker.
Deco will be a busy man this summer
Wojciech Szczesny will be leaving Barcelona at the end of the season, and that time, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen will be back from his serious injury. He and Inaki Pena will once again be the two first team goalkeepers, although there are doubts about both. As such, Deco has recognised that it could be wise to sign a new player, with a younger option being the most likely situation – despite promising prospects Diego Kochen and Ander Astralaga already being at the club.
It is no secret that Barcelona want to sign a new left winger. They tried – and failed – to bring in Marcus Rashford in January, but in the summer, they could go for a big-name addition. In the past, they have been linked with the likes of Rafael Leao and Nico Williams, both of whom could be targeted.
Finally, a new striker does make sense for Barcelona to target, as Robert Lewandowski is coming towards the end of his career. While he is still a prolific goalscorer, he cannot be relied upon throughout the entirety of a season, and as such, a younger option should be added in – provided that Vitor Roque is still not counted on.
