Brazilian superstar Neymar could be on the verge of a sensational return to Barcelona.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Neymar’s representatives have already held talks with Barcelona’s hierarchy about a potential summer move.

After leaving Paris Saint-Germain in 2023 for a big-money move to Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal, Neymar’s time in the Middle East was plagued by injuries, culminating in a premature exit last month.

The 32-year-old then made an emotional return to Santos, signing a six-month deal that runs until the end of the season.

While Neymar’s homecoming in Brazil has been widely celebrated, the former PSG superstar is keen to hit the peak of his powers ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

To boost his chances of making the Brazil squad for the showpiece event, Neymar wants a return to European football and has his heart set on an emotional return to Barca.

When asked about potential attacking moves to keep an eye on this summer, Ornstein said: “If I’m to highlight one forward to monitor for the summer, it would be Neymar.

“The remarkable situation currently being explored and prioritised is a return to Barcelona.

“Nothing has been decided, but I’m told this would be his dream, and discussions are taking place between the Catalan giants and his camp.”

Barcelona president Joan Laporta and Neymar’s agent, Pini Zahavi, share a strong relationship, which could play a major role in getting a sensational deal over the line.

Zahavi also represents Barca’s head coach, Hansi Flick, so there’s an air of optimism that a deal can be done.

Neymar wants to be in the best possible condition for the 2026 World Cup and dreams of playing in Barca’s soon-to-be-renovated Camp Nou.

His deal with Santos expires in the summer, so unless he signs an extension, he will be a free agent by June 30.

However, there’s also a clause that allows him to leave early for any club competing in the FIFA Club World Cup in June.
