Ben Brereton Diaz has returned to Sheffield United on loan. The Southampton star claimed it was a "no brainer" to re-join his former club.
Southampton signed Ben Brereton Diaz in the summer transfer window. However, he was one of those players who was signed without any real understanding about why from the Southampton owners.
Naturally, when Southampton clinched promotion back to the Premier League, the panic started to set-in after the jubilation. Therefore, the Saints deemed it best to sign a handful of players without doing too much research into them. Unfortunately, Brereton Diaz was one of them.
Now, the Chile international has returned to his former club Sheffield United, where he initially made a name for himself in England.
Speaking about his loan transfer from Southampton, Ben Brereton Diaz revealed his reasoning for returning to Sheffield United, despite interest from other clubs too.
He claimed that due to having family in Southampton, he deemed it was best to return to a club he was already familiar with. For this reason and his former memories with the Blades, it was a no-brainer for BBD to return to Sheffield.
In his own words, Brereton Diaz said: "For me personally, with a young family back in Southampton, I didn't want to go somewhere else unfamiliar, but most importantly, I know what the gaffer and his staff are about, and I've been delighted to see the team doing so well this season, for me, it was a no-brainer to come back."
It makes complete sense. It can be easy for us as fans to forget that the players are human beings too. When making vital career decisions, they will naturally have their families' best interest at heart. This is the case with Ben Brereton Diaz and he's been honest about his decision making process.
Now, the Southampton star will help Sheffield United complete their return back to the Premier League. The Blades begun this season tremendously, even with the points deduction.
Over the last few weeks, Sheffield United have not been in the best form. However, this is something that Ben Brereton Diaz will hope to change. After all, promotion back to the Premier League is certainly still on.
