Reports by Corriere dello Sport suggest that 26-year-old Jesper Karlsson is fresh in the minds of both FC Twente and Utrecht, after Bologna have allowed him to go out on loan. The two Eredivisie sides should expect Belgian competition in the battle for the former AZ Alkmaar attacker.
Following his departure from AZ, things haven’t exactly worked out for Karlsson at Bologna. The Italians paid around eleven million euros for the left winger, but with injury struggles and competition for places, the Swede has found it difficult to adapt in Serie A.
Chances for Twente and Utrecht look good, as the attacker indicated last summer that he sometimes misses the Netherlands. A return is now beckoning after his previous successful period at AZ. That said, the Tukkers and the Domstedelingen can count on competition from Royal Antwerp FC and KRC Genk.
Admittedly, Karlsson played his best football in Alkmaar, notching 46 in 124 games and earning his first Swedish caps while in the Dutch top tier.
Karlsson has a contract with the Champions League participants until mid-2028. This season he has made five Serie A appearances and scored one goal.
