Standard Liege have received a boost ahead of their next game in the Belgian Pro League play-offs. The side have been able to welcome back defender David Bates, who has been out for a number of months with an injury. The former Aberdeen defender has not played since suffering from a knee injury back in October. The 28-year-old was one of the sides summer signings from KV Mechelen.

Standard are Bates’ third team in Belgium, having played for Cercle alongside KV Mechelen. Bates has played for a number of sides in his career, including Raith Rovers, Rangers, Hamburger SV and a brief spell with Sheffield Wednesday, although he only made one appearance for the side. So far this season he has only made nine appearances for Standard. Last year he played 67 games for Mechelen and scored five goals.
