On Thursday, 20th of March, there were international games taking place all over the world. With it, plenty of Borussia Dortmund players were in action, including in Germany's 2-1 win against Italy for the Nations League Play-offs first leg. Let's take a look at how the overseas players performed for their respective nations:
At 18:00 CET, Salih Özcan was not in the Türkiye match day squad for their Nations League play-off first leg at home to Hungary. In his absence, his side managed to pull off an impressive 3-1 victory, giving themselves a healthy lead to head into Budapest.
That second leg in Hungary takes place on Sunday, 23rd of March - with kick-off at 18:00 CET. Should Türkiye hold onto their current advantage, they will be promoted to League A of the UEFA Nations League. Let's hope that Özcan can play a part in that second leg.
As for Giovanni Reyna, his USA team was in action at home to Panama in the CONCACAF Nations League semi-finals, for this game, USMNT manager Mauricio Pochettino named Reyna amongst the substitutes.
Throughout the game, the USA had more of the ball, more of the territory, and more of the chances, but it failed to put any of them away. Just as it looked like the game was heading for a 0-0 draw and thus another 30 minutes, Panama pulled off the ultimate "smash and grab" by scoring the only goal of the game in the 94th minute and heading to the final against Mexico.
As for the US, they will play a third-place play-off game against Canada on Sunday, with kick-off at 23:00 CET. Unfortunately, Reyna remained an unused sub, meaning that in three of his last four games for club and country, he failed to get off the bench. Tough time for Gio.
Lastly, Julian Duranville started for Belgium u-21's 2-1 friendly win against the young Swedes. Juju had no goal contributions in this particular match, being subbed off in the 61st minute. He had 30 touches and 92% accuracy in passes but only completed one of his three dribble attempts. It was not a particularly stardom performance for the BVB prodigy, but still, he is pretty young, and as many minutes he can play and make mistakes, the better.
