kicker reports that Borussia Mönchengladbach have extended the contract of forward Alassane Pléa due to a clause in his deal.

Pléa’s contract was set to expire in the summer, but in the extension that he signed back in 2022, there was a clause that would allow the club to extend his contract until 2026. The clause has now been triggered meaning the Frenchman cannot leave the side on a free transfer.

The 31-year-old has struggled to hit the heights he did when he first joined from Nice in 2018 for a club record fee of €23m. However, in recent weeks, Pléa looks to be slowly hitting his stride once again as he is the club’s second top scorer behind summer-signing Tim Kleindienst. The Frenchman’s performances even mean Kevin Stöger has had to settle for a place on the bench.

In recent summers, Pléa has been linked with a move away from Borussia Park but each time has stayed at the club, despite their questionable form. However, Die Fohlen is currently sixth in the Bundesliga and finally look like they are heading in the right direction under Gerardo Seoane.
