Carlos Augusto won the ‘Man of The Match’ award in Inter Milan’s superb 2-0 away win against Serie A rivals Atalanta.

Speaking to DAZN via FCInterNews, the Brazilian wingback hailed the team’s effort at the Gewiss Stadium.

Inter boss Simone Inzaghi handed Augusto his second consecutive league start as Federico Dimarco remains on the sidelines.

Augusto repaid his manager’s trust in the best possible way.

Indeed, he netted a game-changing opener at the start of the second half to set the tone for Inter’s first away league win in five games.

Then, Lautaro Martinez put the final nail in Atalanta’s coffin with a lethal finish down the final stretch.

As a result, Inter steered six points clear of La Dea heading into March’s international break.

More importantly, Inzaghi’s charges now boast a four-point lead on second-placed Napoli.

Carlos Augusto Praises Inter Milan Team Effort vs Atalanta

“We put in a great team effort,” Augusto said. “Credit to everyone – we knew it would be tough, but we came in focused and aggressive.

“This win is for the fans.”

Augusto netted his second header in the Inter jersey.

Interestingly, Hakan Calhanoglu set him up for both goals.

“I have to thank him,” Augusto laughed. “We work a lot on set pieces during the week.

“But the win is for my teammates, who fought hard and gave everything.”

Finally, he explained his trademark goal celebration.

“I did it for a friend of mine who lives in Brazil.”

Inter will spend the next two weeks comfortably clear of the chasing pack in Serie A.

However, Inzaghi’s team must not let complacency creep in as they bid to defend the title for the first time in over a decade.

But they can savor the moment and enjoy an eighth successive victory against Atalanta in all competitions.
