The visitors from Hamburg started the brighter of the two sides, dominating possession in the early stages and causing problems for the Bremen defence. Pauli's high-pressing game disrupted Bremen's rhythm, forcing errors and creating opportunities. The Kiezkickers thought they had taken the lead in the 11th minute when Carlo Boukhalfa found the net, but the midfielder's joy was short-lived as the flag was raised for offside. Despite their control, Pauli struggled to create clear-cut chances, with Bremen's defence holding firm under pressure.

As the first half progressed, Bremen began to find their footing in the match. Mitchell Weiser provided a spark for the home side, testing the St. Pauli defence with his runs down the right flank. The hosts thought they had broken the deadlock in the 39th minute when Jens Stage volleyed home, but once again, the offside flag killed the celebrations. The teams went into the break level, with both sides feeling they could improve in the second half.

Bremen came out with renewed vigour after the interval, pushing Pauli back and creating several promising opportunities. Niklas Stark had a golden chance to put Bremen ahead in the 49th minute, but his header was expertly saved by Nikola Vasilj. Justin Njinmah was at the heart of Bremen's attacking play, forcing another fine save from Vasilj in the 58th minute. The introduction of Oliver Burke in the 69th minute added a new dimension to Bremen's attack, with the Scottish forward's pace and power causing problems for the tiring Pauli defence. Burke thought he had won the game for Bremen in the 80th minute, but for the third time in the match, a goal was chalked off for offside.
Both coaches, Ole Werner and Alexander Blessin, engaged in a tactical battle throughout the match, making key substitutions to influence the game's flow. Blessin introduced Elias Saad for Noah Weißhaupt in the 62nd minute, looking to inject fresh energy into Pauli's attack. Werner responded by bringing on Burke for Njinmah, a move that almost paid dividends with Burke's disallowed goal. The final stages saw both teams make further changes, with Bremen introducing Leonardo Bittencourt and Marco Grüll, while Pauli brought on Robert Wagner and Connor Metcalfe, as both sides sought a late winner.
As the match entered its final stages, both teams pushed for a winner, leading to an open and frantic conclusion. The physical nature of the contest was evident throughout, with several yellow cards brandished by referee Tobias Reichel. The drama reached its peak in stoppage time when Pauli's Connor Metcalfe received a second yellow card, reducing the visitors to ten men for the final moments. Despite the late numerical advantage, Bremen couldn't find a way through Pauli's resolute defence, with Vasilj making a crucial save in the dying seconds to preserve a point for his team.
While no single player dominated the match, several individuals stood out with their performances. Pauli goalkeeper Vasilj made crucial saves, particularly in the second half, to keep his team in the game. For Bremen, Njinmah was a constant threat, creating several chances and forcing Vasilj into action. Defensively, Siebe Van der Heyden was a rock for Pauli, winning numerous duels and helping to neutralize Bremen's attacks. The midfield battle was fiercely contested, with Jens Stage of Bremen and Carlo Boukhalfa of Pauli both putting in energetic displays.
