Today Brentford publishes its first-ever sustainability report for the 2023/24 season.

It outlines the club’s work so far in sustainability and the approach we plan to take going forward.

In the report, we acknowledge both the environmental challenges society faces and the opportunities we have to be part of the solution to climate change.

Our sustainability strategy outlined in the report consists of five pillars: governance, climate, circularity, nature and biodiversity and engagement.

The report highlights some of the club’s work on sustainability. This includes:

  • The establishment of Brentford’s sustainability advisory group made up of industry experts who will help guide the club. The group held their first meeting last week
  • The process of assessing our carbon footprint and ensuring we can keep improving our data quality to accurately calculate our use of greenhouse gases
  • Our calculations of how much waste we generate so we can take steps towards a circular economy and reuse, recycle and remake
  • Regenerating our natural habitat through initiatives such as the Gtech Community Garden created in the summer
  • Working with various groups in our community to inform our work and come up with shared solutions that make a positive impact on the environment. For example, we’re proud to work with our club partners, the wider football industry and fans including the Sustaina-Bees, an independent fan group for Bees fans with knowledge and concern about the environmental crisis

Sustainability has become of increasing importance to the club. Our first-ever survey in this area showed that on average, fans ranked the importance of sustainability an 8.1 out of 10.

Last year, we hired our first sustainability manager, James Beale, who has led our work in the area.

Commenting on the report, he said: “Our first ever sustainability report marks an important step in Brentford’s journey in this area.

“This report sets out the way we are approaching this issue, as well as some of the progress we’ve made to date. As this is our first report, we know it is just the beginning.

“We’re committed to continuing this work with transparency and accountability as we move forward.”
