Brighton & Hove Albion are in discussions to sign RC Strasbourg Alsace midfielder Habib Diarra, according to a report from L’Equipe.
The Seagulls have made a verbal offer to sign the 21-year-old midfielder.
Brighton have proposed an offer in the region of €23 million for Diarra, who has been chased by AC Milan and other unnamed Premier League sides.
It appears that Brighton not only hold an interest in the Senegalese midfielder but they have taken the first step in trying to reach an agreement. They have been in discussions with them and are willing to secure his signature.
They have come into contact with BlueCo and have presented a verbal offer. Strasbourg are holding out for a more considerable offer for the player. The offer from Brighton may not be enough to prise him away as the French side value him highly.
Diarra is the captain of the French club. He has made 19 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring four goals and registering two assists, and needless to say, his impressive performances have not gone unnoticed.
Brighton are one of the clubs whose transfer strategy has been widely praised. It is remarkable how they keep on finding raw talents and then sell them at a high price.
Could they unearth another hidden gem in the form of Diarra?
Brighton have made one signing so far in the January window – Diego Gomez joining from Inter Miami. There has been a lot of interest in Brighton striker Evan Ferguson this month, but the club are reluctant to send the young striker away to any Premier League rival, even on loan.
