The nominees are:
Cody Gakpo (Liverpool)
Gakpo was Liverpool’s most constant threat over the two legs. He has become the go-to outlet on the left side for Arne Slot’s team, either cutting inside onto his right foot or taking it past them on his left.
The Dutchman had a brilliant spell just before half-time in the first leg, then settled Liverpool’s nerves with a firmly taken opener in the second leg at Anfield before striking the post in the second half.
Gordon scored in each leg of Newcastle’s Semi-Final victory over Arsenal, but his performance was also about energy, a willingness to press at every opportunity and to burst forward at will.
He was on hand to steer home Newcastle’s second goal at the Emirates and was a constant menace to the Arsenal defence at St James’ Park, finally getting the goal his play deserved to make it 4-0 on aggregate.
Alexander Isak (Newcastle United)
While Arsenal missed chances in the first leg at the Emirates, Isak took his, showing calmness to lift a shot above David Raya for Newcastle’s opener.
His shot after the interval was parried into the path of Anthony Gordon for the second.
The Swede also made his mark at St James’ Park, seeing an early goal ruled out for offside, then striking the post and seeing the rebound turned in by Jacob Murphy.
Van Dijk bullied the Tottenham attackers, particularly Richarlison, in the second leg at Anfield, leading by example in defence.
He helped deny the visitors an attempt on target all game, setting the platform for his side’s 4-0 victory.
With the tone established and superiority at the back mastered through his constant organising, the Dutchman strode forward with purpose late on to score Liverpool’s fourth goal with a brilliant header.
