The Belgian star and his teammates hammered Dundee United in style this lunchtime, as Brendan Rodgers’ men put the finishing touches on Four-in-a-row and another glorious addition to the trophy cabinet and history books ultimately.
This side of the millennium, the Hoops have been utterly dominant and absolutely battered our opponents into submission, with the club peerless at domestic level. With another League Cup also already secured in December too against our arch-rivals – which was decided in a heart-thumping penalty shootout – the champagne will taste even sweeter, as we now have the opportunity to win yet more silverware and seal a Treble on 24 May.

For Arne, it’s been his debut season at Paradise and his first real taste of Scottish football. The midfielder’s move to Celtic Park was greeted with many eyebrow raises and suspicious glances, as the powerbrokers at the Glasgow giants forked out a record-breaking £11.5 million to bring him from mid-table Bundesliga side FC Augsburg, where he had received a reputation as a potentially elite player in the making.
That void that Matt O’Riley left was big shoes to fill for Arne but the young engine-room operator has made a great start to life at the Bhoys and has plenty more growth and development to come further down the road. With some notable performances in the UEFA Champions League and showing a clear maturity and understanding at the top-level, it’s clear that Celtic have made a shrewd investment for the future, regardless of what some in the local media may say.

Delighted at getting this one over the line with his new club, Engels said post-match at Tannadice to Sky Sports: “It’s an amazing feeling, everyone deserves it. What a wonderful performance today, everyone worked so hard for it. Everyone was in the right mindset today to win it and I’m really proud of everyone. We’re one final away from a treble. We’ll celebrate today but tomorrow or the day after we’ll focus on the Rangers game and then the Scottish Cup final.”
