The 31 year-old made his landmark 500th appearance for the Hoops on Sunday afternoon at Fir Park in his side’s 3-1 victory over Motherwell.
Now, Celtic have urged fans to get in their seats early for this evening’s match at Paradise. A special presentation will be held 15 minutes before the game kicks off to honour McGregor’s milestone with boss Brendan Rodgers joining the captain on the pitch.
McGregor has embarked on an incredible Celtic journey – starting 11 years ago in Iceland versus KR Reykjavik under Ronny Deila in the Champions League qualifiers. Integral throughout Neil Lennon, Ange Postecoglou and Brendan Rodgers’ successful periods, the midfielder has been at the forefront of Celtic’s dominance in the past decade.

500 appearances, 23 major trophies, and five Trebles later, McGregor has enriched himself as a club icon and is now one of only 14 players in the club’s 137-year history to have played 500 games or more.
Speaking at his media conference last Friday, Brendan Rodgers spoke about McGregor’s wonderful achievement: “It says so many things, not just as a player but he clearly had the talent as a young player to be at Celtic, but it tells you absolutely everything about his professionalism, his commitment, his quality and his example that he sets every single day.”

Rodgers added: “Seeing him now to when I first came and just seeing that growth, it’s a remarkable achievement in the position he plays with the possibility of so many good players to be in here to play that number of games.”
“I’m so proud of seeing how his career has moved from when he first broke into the team in 2016 when I came in just seeing how it was back then to how he leads the team. We are so, so lucky to have him as captain here and he’s still got a number of years left!”
