Champions League club declare interest in Chelsea ace as race for €45m talent intensifies | OneFootball

Borussia Dortmund have Carney Chukwuemeka on their shortlist as they weigh up a potential move for the midfielder this month according to reports.

Chelsea were expected to be quiet in January, but injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile have altered their plans and it seems like they could sign a centre back in the window.

The Blues have a number of players they are looking to move on and the club are looking to find a solution for Ben Chilwell, whilst Cesare Casadei has multiple suitors and is expected to leave.

Dortmund enter race for Chukwuemeka

Chuwkwuemeka is another player Chelsea are looking to move on this month and he’s been told by the club he can leave.

It was made clear to the 21-year-old that he wasn’t part of Enzo Maresca’s plans in pre-season, but he remained at the club in the summer and has hardly featured this campaign.

Chukwuemeka hasn’t played a single minute in the Premier League, whilst he’s started just one Conference League game against Astana.

The midfielder has a release clause of £40m and it’s thought Chelsea aren’t prepared to entertain a cut price sale, meaning a permanent departure in January could be unlikely.

Chukwuemeka is attracting attention from West Ham, whilst he was also linked with a move to AC Milan during the summer.

However, Sky Germany’s Patrick Berger has reported Borussia Dortmund have added the talented youngster to their shortlist.

He took to X.com and said:

“Chelsea’s Carney Chukwuemeka (21) is on the shortlist of Borussia Dortmund. #BVB is looking for a no 8, as revealed on Monday in our show.  The 21yo former Villa starlet is struggling under Enzo Maresca.

Given Dortmund’s reputation for developing young players a potential move to the Bundesliga outfit would make sense for Chukwuemeka, but Chelsea would have to accept that a permanent deal this month is unlikely and to move the player on they are likely going to have to accept a loan.
