Chelsea Starting XI vs Djurgarden: Confirmed Team News and Predicted Lineup

It’s a rare situation for Chelsea this season: control. With a 4-1 first-leg lead over Djurgarden, Enzo Maresca has license to manage both minutes and minds ahead of a more consequential domestic test at Newcastle. The Conference League semi-final second leg should, in theory, be process over peril. But as ever with Chelsea in Europe, the line between rotation and risk is thin.

Maresca’s comments ahead of the game betrayed a coach with one eye fixed firmly on the weekend. “We will start tomorrow with the best XI we think for us,” he said, while also citing the “48 hours” between matches and last week’s difficult turnaround from Sweden. Recovery, not romance, shapes this XI.
Filip Jorgensen, a constant in Chelsea’s European campaign, retains his place in goal. In front of him, the spine of the team will likely echo that which comfortably saw off Djurgarden last week rather than the side that stunned Liverpool.

Christopher Nkunku remains sidelined, opening the door again for academy forward Tyrique George to lead the line. Marc Guiu is edging closer to a return, but his role, if any, will likely be off the bench.

Maresca has repeatedly leaned into youth and versatility in Europe, and it’s likely to be more of the same, with midfield orchestrated by Enzo Fernandez and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, while Noni Madueke and Jadon Sancho offer width and incision.

Romeo Lavia, Aaron Anselmino, and Wesley Fofana are all unavailable due to either injury or ineligibility. Mykhailo Mudryk and Omari Kellyman also miss out, trimming Maresca’s options further. But this is no patchwork side—it’s a reflection of Chelsea’s strategic layering of youth, recovery, and tactical assurance.
