Chelsea target Mathys Tel has decided to leave Bayern Munich in the final days of the January transfer window, with Manchester United reportedly among the sides considering a move.
19-year-old Tel joined Bayern in the summer of 2022 but has started just nine Bundesliga games since then, having struggled to command minutes in Bayern's star-studded forward line. Chelsea have long been keen on signing the France youth international but had repeatedly been disappointed by Tel's reluctance to leave his current employers.
However, a string of games as an unused substitute sparked a change in stance for Tel and Fabrizio Romano revealed the teenage forward has now decided to pursue a move elsewhere in the final days of the January window.
Tel has no shortage of offers, both permanent and loan, but Chelsea are back in negotiations with Bayern as they seek to lure him to Stamford Bridge in the coming days.
Doing a deal with Chelsea would be favourable for Bayern, who want Blues forward Christopher Nkunku in exchange. Nkunku is open to leaving Chelsea and is thought to have already agreed personal terms with the Bundesliga leaders.
However, Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg names United as a potential rival for Chelsea. The Red Devils are not actively looking to sign Tel but see him as a high-level replacement for either Marcus Rashford or Alejandro Garnacho, both of whom have been heavily linked with moves away from Old Trafford.
Barcelona want to sign Rashford on loan and recently came into some money that will aid their efforts to finance a bid, while United are back in talks with Napoli over selling Garnacho, who has also been linked with Chelsea.
L'Equipe name both Marseille and Eintracht Frankfurt among the numerous suitors for Tel, who has managed 16 goals and seven assists for Bayern despite his limited minutes.
