Roma manager Claudio Ranieri was the protagonist of a long interview given to the historic Rai TV program Dribbling.
The Giallorossi coach addressed various topics, from his current role to the club’s future projects.
“I never thought I would have to return to Roma, I thought my career was over. There were other requests but I refused. I said to myself that if I really had to return I would only do it for Cagliari or Roma.”
“I didn’t wish either club to want me. As a fan I’m sorry because I wanted Roma to be at the top, but at the same time I’m happy because I’m back home.”
“We need continuity, my team must be determined and practical. We have a lot of work to do and the boys follow me. I have no secrets, I try to get in tune with the team.”
“Roma was built to fight for higher positions, I don’t know if we’ll succeed this year but the important thing is to give continuity in order to give the next coach the most real vision of this Roma.”
“I’m done coaching after this. My mandate ends in June and we’ll find a coach capable of taking Roma where the owners want it to be. I’m happy with my career, but it’s time to end it.”
“The Friedkins? They have spent a lot of money and want to bring Roma into the elite of Italian and European football.”
“Montella or Allegri for Roma’s vacancy? I won’t name names, the more I see them in the newspapers the less I take them into consideration.”
“I just want to tell the fans to stay close to us, the boys run and fight and will always try to make them proud.”
“Objectives for the season? We can’t think of saying let’s win the Coppa Italia or the Europa League, but we work seriously to try to do our best. At the end of the season we’ll take stock of the situation.”
