Club Brugge followed up their crucial win over then league leaders Genk last weekend with a demolition job on Gent on Sunday. The defending champions took control of the title race with a 5-0 win over the Buffaloes in one of the most comfortable play-off games in recent years. After Union St Gilloise took down Genk earlier in the afternoon, Club Brugge now sit top and have control over their own destiny.

Christos Tzolis, arguably the signing of the season so far, scored twice early to set the tone. Goals from Kyriani Sabbe and then a brace for Romeo Vermant made it 5-0. Club were utterly dominant, getting off 20 shots and finishing with an xG of 4.76. Gent, on the other hand, could only muster three shots all game, non of which were on target and a final xG of just 0.44, The game highlighted the gulf in class between sides like Club Brugge and Gent. In truth, the three title chasing teams are above and beyond the other three teams that are making up the play-offs.

Next up for Club is a huge clash with in form Union. The side from Brussels have also won all four of their games in the play-offs so far, and a win would see them leapfrog Club into first place. Genk face an Antwerp side that have not won in the post season yet. They will be under pressure to not drop anymore points after the two defeats in a row.
