Tammy Abraham has had to make do with a supporting role this season for AC Milan, but he still hopes that he can earn a permanent stay.

As Calciomercato.com write, in the season of paradoxes that Milan are experiencing there is one that stands out above the others: that of the centre-forward. In the summer, the Rossoneri spent €13m on Alvaro Morata, then in January they invested another €32m to get Santiago Gimenez.

Morata was meant to be the centrepiece of the attack with his experience and consistent (albeit not high) goal return. The management hoped he would be a leader on and off the pitch, but instead he departed after just six months to join Galatasaray, with Gimenez replacing him.

Their reserve, Abraham, also arrived in the summer in a loan swap with Alexis Saelemaekers. He has scored eight goals and in recent matches he has arguably offered a bit more than the Mexican, as the assist against Como for Tijjani Reijnders’ winner shows.

During the break, Sergio Conceicao will be able to work at Milanello with Abraham while the former Feyenoord player will be busy with his country in the CONCACAF Nations League. That, coupled with Gimenez’s month-long goal drought, could see a temporary change in the hierarchies.

That being said, Abraham is proving to be more ready, more proactive and more decisive when coming off the bench. The former Chelsea player has been crucial in several matches, including the Supercoppa Italiana final against Inter.

At present it looks like Tamm will just have a one season experience with the Rossoneri, unless his performances convince the management to make an investment – which would also be significant – in order to keep him.

Abraham will return to Roma in the summer as it stands but it will only be for a short time because his time with the Giallorossi is up too. A return to England could be on the cards with West Ham ahead of Wolves and Everton in the list of interested clubs.

The parties will talk about it again at the end of the season when Abraham, in Milan’s crazy season, could go from reserve to starter and – depending on the new sporting director that comes in – could even be purchased outright. A pay cut would be needed though, given he earns €6m net per year.
