La Liga giants Barcelona have on Wednesday sewn up an agreement to add to the club’s ranks between the posts.

The player primed to link up with Hansi Flick’s squad for the remainder of the season? Wojciech Szczęsny.

The name of shot-stopper Szczęsny has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines across all of Spain over the course of recent days.

This comes after word was forthcoming that the Polish international had been identified as Barcelona’s no.1 target to replace Marc-André ter Stegen, after the Blaugrana’s long-time no.1 was condemned to a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a knee injury.

Szczęsny for his part called time on his playing career over the summer, after a mutual agreement was reached to terminate his contract with Italian heavyweights Juventus.

The Camp Nou brass, though, this week set about convincing the Pole of the merits of coming out of retirement.

And, as alluded to above, on Wednesday, such efforts have come to fruition.

As per a report from transfer insider Fabrizio Romano:

‘Szczesny will come out of retirement to sign for Barça and replace ter Stegen on [a] one year contract.’

The 34-year-old is expected to undergo a round of medical tests with Barcelona over the next couple of days, ahead of putting pen to paper on terms at the Camp Nou.
