The Premier League have confirmed the list of match officials to oversee proceedings between Aston Villa and Manchester City on Saturday lunchtime.

Pep Guardiola and his players are continuing to battle against a torrid run of form across competitions with just one win to their name in the last 11 matches in the Carabao Cup, Premier League and UEFA Champions League.

That streak is having huge ramifications on Manchester City’s ability to challenge for the very highest of honours, and having crashed out of the League Cup at the fourth round stage, they also lie 5th in the English top-flight table.

Things are not much better in European competition either, with Pep Guardiola and his players lying 22nd in the league phase of the Champions League, meaning that points against Paris Saint-Germain and Club Brugge on the final two matchdays are non-negotiables.

Fresh off the back of another crushing defeat, this time at the hands of Manchester United in the Premier League at home, City now turn attentions towards another stern test as they take on Unai Emery’s Villains away from the north-west.

Ahead of the meeting between Aston Villa and Manchester City, the Premier League have now announced the list of match officials to oversee proceedings at Villa Park!

Match Referee

The Premier League have confirmed that Peter Bankes will mark his 10th game of the ongoing English top-flight season with a contest involving Manchester City at Villa Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Merseyside-affiliated official has issued a total of 36 yellow cards so far in the ongoing campaign and his nine matches to date, issuing two red cards via a second caution, and awarding four penalty-kicks in the process.

Pep Guardiola and his players have already come across Bankes once in the ongoing Premier League season, as they defeated Fulham in a well-contested 3-2 win at the Etihad Stadium back in early October.

City however, have a mixed bag of results when taking on contests with Bankes as the lead on-field match official, winning three times, drawing once, and losing the other two outings, seeing seven yellow cards issued and one red.

Assistant Referees

Accompanying Bankes on the field at Villa Park this weekend will be an assistant refereeing pairing consisting of Eddie Smart and Nick Greenhalgh, the Premier League have confirmed.

Video Assistant Referees

As for those operating at Stockley Park and the VAR Hub, the top-flight have revealed that Darren England will take on the role of Video Assistant Referee, with Darren Cann allocated to Assistant Video Assistant Referee.

Fourth Official

As for the role of ensuring that all goes smoothly between Unai Emery and Pep Guardiola’s technical areas and dugouts, the Premier League have handed the role of fourth official to Andy Madley.
