Alphonso Davies ended months of speculation by extending his contract at Bayern Munich until 2030. Real Madrid had been longing for the signing of the Canadian, whose contract at the Rekordmeister expired at the end of the season prior to putting pen-to-paper on a new deal.
Sky Germany report that Davies will earn a gross salary of around €15m, as well as receiving a signing bonus as well as performance-related bonuses. Contract negotiations had been drawn out and at one point, it looked as though Davies would have been heading for the exit door. Contrary to reports, Nedal Huoseh, the agent of Davies, had to come out and deny claims that the 24-year-old was about to join Real.
The key turning point for Bayern was extending the player’s contract a further year – until 2030 – than the previously negotiated (2029). A new five-year deal allows the Bundesliga side to spread the financial demands of Davies over five years instead of four.
Upon the announcement of his new contract, Davies took to Instagram to say that “there is no place like home and that is what Munich is to me.”
Davies arrived as an 18-year-old from Vancouver Whitecaps and has now established himself as the club’s leading left-back. “I couldn’t be happier and more proud to be a part of Bayern Munich and I will continue to give 110% on-and-off the pitch for this club and city.”
