Good evening and welcome to the Football Italia LIVEBLOG for coverage of Wednesday evening’s Coppa Italia Round of 16 clash between Roma and Sampdoria.

Kick-off is due at 20.00 GMT.

This is Roma’s first match in the Coppa Italia in 2024-25.

Sampdoria, meanwhile, have already progressed past Serie A competition in rivals Genoa to get to the round of 16. The Blucerchiati also triumped over Como in the first round. Both games ended in 1-1 draws after 90 minutes.

If Sampdoria manage to hold Roma to a draw, the game will head straight to penalties after 90 minutes. There will be no extra time.

Comfortable for the vast majority of the first half for Roma. Sampdoria had a couple of attempts just before the half-time whistle, but nothing that the Giallorossi couldn’t deal with.

Replays show that Leonardi’s strike bounced up and onto Celik’s arm in the Roma penalty area, but the referee immediately waved it away. Very close to the shot, not a lot the Giallorossi defender could have done to get away from it.

Ryan’s attempted clearance goes pear-shaped and lands at the feet of Pedrola, who feeds Leonardi, but his shot is smothered by Celik, who then pumps clear. Samp had barely been out of their own half until that point.

The young Italian picks it up of Mario Hermoso on the halfway line before carrying it into a dangerous position, finding the bottom corner from the edge of the area with a wonderful finish.

It’s the same combination again. Pisilli finds Saelemaekers with a lovely cross-field switch. The Belgian sends another cross in from the right, which Meulensteen puts onto his own crossbar, before Dovbyk heads home from close range.
