A lot of the media attention surrounding AC Milan’s game against Feyenoord tonight concerns the choices that Sergio Conceicao will make in attack.
As Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) reports this morning, during his press conference yesterday Conceicao didn’t reveal much and hid behind a ‘we’ll see’ when asked about who he might pick for the first leg of the Champions League play-off round tie at De Kuip.
However, it is obvious that the coach is really tempted to start with Christian Pulisic, Joao Felix, Rafael Leao and Santiago Gimenez from minute one. This morning he will make his final decision, but his choices might be forced by the lack of midfield options.
If Milan can no longer afford to drop more points in the league and must take risks in order to recover ground in the Champions League race, tonight in Europe they are not obliged to win because in six days the return match is scheduled at San Siro.
It must be said, however, that getting the tie into a good position tonight would be ideal, especially against a Feyenoord side that are not going through a great moment and have even changed head coach this week.
More Stories / The Match
Conceiçao wants to be able to better manage the workload of his key players in the next few weeks in which the Rossoneri will have to play every three days. To get the job near-done tonight in Rotterdam would certainly be helpful in that sense.
The most talked-about player is obviously Santiago Gimenez, who joined Milan in the winter mercato from Feyenoord, where he had become a fan favourite with big goals in big games, like the 3-0 win over Bayern. Tonight, though, he aims to hurt the club he called his own less than two weeks ago.
